Planned Activities

Human Rights Day - December 10th

We plan to mark Human Rights Day in a similar way to last year. We will have a candle-lit procession to the Christmas tree in the Bullring, where we will hold a short vigil. Entertainemnt will be provided by Bui Bolg Youth group.
We hope to sell Amnesty candles in the weeks prior to this. Again, volunteers to help sell these would be very welcome.

Wexford Amnesty members, Caroline and Lindy, at the recent Opera Festival.Fair Trade

We aim to begin a campaign to make Wexford a Fair Trade town in January. We will hold a meeting then of all interested parties to form a steering group, which will guide this campaign.

Stop Violence against Women

We plan to launch this campaign in March, in conjunction with other interested groups.

Please contact us for further details of forthcoming activities.

FACE UP TO THE ARMS TRADE!

Saturday, 14th February saw the public launch of Amnesty Wexford's campaign for a Worldwide Arms Treaty. The group asked the people of Wexford to make a contribution to the Million Faces Petition for Arms Control. 'We are marking Valentines Day by asking people to come and have their photograph taken for a global petition calling on the governments of the world to develop an Arms Trade Treaty" said Donncha Foley, Amnesty Wexford Co-ordinator.

The lack of control of the arms trade is fuelling conflict, poverty, and human rights abuses worldwide. One person a minute is killed by armed violence - that's more than half a million every year. The world’s most powerful governments are also the world’s biggest arms suppliers, with France, Russia, China, the UK and the USA accounting for 88 per cent of the world's conventional arms exports.

"We believe we are fighting the real War on Terror, and we would like it if people came along to mark Valentine's Day in this unique way.
